Days 18

30th March, Wednesday. I went to the barber, and cut my hair and shaved my chin all over.

Then I took the train down to Nishi-Shinjuku. There is my favorite record shop called Barn Homes. I went in and had conversations with them about the earthquake.

They said that many foreign artists had called off concerts in Japan. Even the tough-looked bands did.

I think I can understand what they feel. In Japan, we say "Tokyo and Fukushima, we have more than 200 miles". But outside Japan, they think "only 200 miles, It is not far away".

I know we don't need to worry too much because we can't run away from here. But they see us wierd because we act like almost nothing wrong.

At Barn Homes, I bought two vinyls and one CD. The CD is the band called Destroyer's "Kaputt". It sounds like Television's second album "Adventure" turning into mellowness. Peculiar but comfortable.

On my way home, I got a call from my wife. She asked me to buy flowers for the living room.

When I bought flowers, I felt dizzy a little. It was hard for us men to buy proper flowers. When we were young, it was harder. And now, still so.

3月30日、水曜日。
伸びていた髪とひげをばっさり落とす。

夕方、
西新宿のバーンホームズへ。
しばし
震災にまつわるよもやま話を。

来日予定だったアーティストの公演が
続々中止になっている。
あるコワモテなバンド（あえて名は伏す）ですら
「行きたくないよ」とダダをこねたそうだと聞いた。

確かに
日本の感覚では
福島と東京には“300キロもある”が、
アメリカ人にしてみれば
“200マイルしかない”と感じられるだろう。
その感覚の違いはよくわかる。

心配したってしかたないが
安心しすぎている姿も
外から見たら
不思議というか
不気味に見えるだろう。

取り置いておいてもらったアナログを2枚、
そして
気になっていたデストロイヤーというバンドのCD「Kaputt」を買う。

テレヴィジョンのセカンド「アドヴェンチャー」を
もうちょっとメロウにしたような
奇妙で心地よい感じ。

帰りがけに花屋さんで
ツマのリクエストを受けて
花を買った。

男子、花を買う。
そのハードルの高さに
すこしドキドキした。
今でもドキドキするのだ。
